My Havana Twists

I just recently got my hair done into a protective style. They are called Havana Twists and this is my first time trying them out. I am trying to give myself a break from doing my hair so frequently, while allowing my hair to grow out. My hair is still recovering from all of the damage I did to it and now I plan to wear my hair in these styles for up to a year. I am excited to document all of the hairstyles I'll wear and the growth of my natural hair. Watch this video to see my thoughts on my havana twists and more.

My Favorite Carrie Bradshaw Looks From Sex & The City

Sex & The City is one of the most fashionable shows ever aired on television. There were so many luxury brand names dropped on the series. Personally, I first heard about Manolo Blahnik after watching so many episodes. I hope I'm not the only one...

From couture gowns to lavish Herm├Ęs Birkin bags, Sex & The City had it all and I was always in some way inspired each episode. Most outfits were out the box and mostly worn by the ever so fabulous Carrie Bradshaw.

Carrie's wardrobe was the most exciting out of the bunch. One episode she's wearing a tutu and the next she's wearing a gold nameplate necklace and earrings. There was no limit for Carrie and that's what I loved about her wardrobe. You can really see the creativity put into her fashion. The nude dress that was seen on the side of the bus during the opening credits and also in season 1 episode 6 when Big and she went on their first date, was simple and chic. One of the most simplistic outfits I've ever seen her wear, but yet it made such a huge statement.

Who could forget the epic nude dress?

She was doing great until...

Don't remember what episode this is from, but how cute?!
The last two episodes of the series when Carrie and her beau went to Paris, her wardrobe was the ultimate finale, literally. Her Paris looks were legendary and definitely the best of the best! She made me feel the energy of Paris just through her looks, even though she wasn't having a good time. I hope when I one day go to Paris, I can look nearly as fashion forward as she did.

He's no Big...

Carrie was certainly a one of a kind and so was her wardrobe. We laughed and we cried with Carrie in so many of her crazy adventures in Sex & The City. For all fashion enthusiasts, we will never forget all of the inspiration Carrie gave us in every episode. What's your favorite Carrie Bradshaw looks?

Bare A Little

This look is schoolgirl inspired with the backpack, skirt and cardigan. It is back to school season and this is the perfect inspiration for the classroom. I added a lot of accessories to this look to make it fun. I absolutely love my cute backpack and I've been wearing it so much lately. I wore a natural makeup look because most of the time us college students want to have a minimal makeup look going to class and not looking like we're going to the club. I used a lot of blues and browns, which are common colors for school uniforms. Also, they really compliment each other well in my opinion. So what do you think? Are you ready to head back to school?

That highlight tho!

Rockin' Romper

Since getting this romper, I have been head over heels in love with it. Rompers are easily my favorite clothing pieces because they're are so easy and convenient. You don't have to spend hours in your closet trying to match a top with some bottoms. With a romper your whole outfit is pretty much set and the rest is just accents to it. I love the fun print it has and it's absolutely perfect for the vibe here in San Diego. It's great that it has long sleeves because in the fall I can just slap on some knee high socks and I'll still be good. I paired this romper with my favorite cat ear hat and my favorite strap on sandals. I wore some huge pearl earrings just to get out of the routine of always wearing faux diamond studs. I also put on my favorite purple liquid lipstick that I recently picked up from Mac Cosmetics. Of course, I couldn't go anywhere with out putting on my cat eye sunglasses to top off the look. So in all, this is a look full of mostly my favorite clothing, accessories, and makeup products.

Another Day in San Diego

This look was put together within ten minutes and I think it came out pretty cute. This look is trendy with the two buns, crop top and Brandy Melville shorts. I paired this effortless outfit with a convenient small back pack and my favorite sunnies from Forever 21. I had on a button front denim top on that I tied so I could keep the cropped look. Later on I decided to get rid of it and just rock the all black, chic look. This is one of my favorite looks I've had in a while. What do you think?

Top 5: Fashion Documentaries

I’ve been watching a lot of fashion documentaries lately just to continue to educate myself about the industry. I noticed that there’s only so many videos to watch that are publicly advertised and recommended. There are many you can watch on Youtube and I will have them linked in this post. But my main point of this post is to tell you all my top five documentaries I’ve come across and that you may enjoy as well. To make it in the industry it is important to know the history of fashion and how brands were established. Since I’m no longer attending fashion school, I’ve made it a point to take on the responsibility of finding out about the industry on my own. So let’s get started!

        1. Scatter My Ashes At Bergdorf's

Credit: Variety.com

I must say that as of now this documentary is my favorite as far fashion goes. It really goes into depth about the legendary luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman. When I lived in New York, I would pass by this store coming home from work at Abercrombie & Fitch all the time and I never really paid it any mind. There were tons of girls in my college who would come into the dorms with a ton of purple Bergdorf bags. Still, I never really cared about the store or its significance. After watching this documentary, I can honestly say I fell in love with it. If I ever go back to New York, I will most definitely stop and pay attention to their window displays because so much work goes into it. Watching the film, you will also learn about Linda Fargo who is the Senior Vice President of the fashion office, the director of women's fashion and store presentation of Bergdorf Goodman. She is the person to impress when you are trying to get your fashion collections and makeup brands into the store. Check out this documentary and fall in love just as I did!

2. The September Issue

Credit: Cambio.com

I’m sure many of you have seen or heard about the film The Devil Wears Prada. Watching the September Issue is like watching the real life version of the movie, without the bullying and random love affairs of course. If you are interested in learning about what it’s like working at a fashion magazine or how American Vogue runs its office daily, you are sure to enjoy this. You will also learn about its Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour who is rumored to be the real life Miranda Priestley. Given that I am trying to run a magazine myself, this movie was perfect for me as a point of reference. This movie is a staple for anyone interested in the fashion industry, especially if your dream is to work at Vogue also known as the fashion bible. You will be introduced to Grace Coddington, who is the Creative Director of American Vogue and not afraid to speak her mind. Also, you will meet former Editor-at-Large, Andre Leon Talley, who was also a judge on America’s Next Top Model.

3. The Secret World of Haute Couture

Credit: Bocamag.com

This documentary takes viewers into the secret lives of the women who buy haute couture that has turned into massive collection over the years. It also shows you how much detail goes into creating these pieces and how much time it takes to create them. This one is also one my favorites because haute couture is the definition of why I love fashion. It’s so out of the box, creative and brings the imagination to life through fabric. It is pretty ridiculous how much money people are willing to pay for haute couture, but still this documentary is awesome.

4.  Secrets of the Super-brands

Credit: Hauteliving.com

This documentary really goes into depth on how attached people are to name brands and how closely related it is to self-esteem of people all over the world. It also takes you behind the scenes of manufacturers around the world that produce a lot of the clothing we wear on a daily basis. It explains how luxury brands make most of their money from lower classes and not the upper class. It’s a very eye opening film that will make you think twice about buying something because of its label versus actually liking it.

5.  Power of the Press
Credit: WWD.com

This film helps to put viewers in the role of people in the media who cover fashion shows and review fashion collections annually. You will be introduced to the man who inherited the coveted Women’s Wear Daily publication and turned it into a powerhouse, John Fairchild. You will learn how important the press is for the success of a designer’s collection and how what they say can have major influence on the masses. It was really interesting to watch and I really enjoyed it. It was also nice to see models from the 90's and realizing how much the modeling industry has changed since.

Part 2

Bonus: Crazy About Tiffany’s

Credit: Unknown

This documentary was just released this year, so it is the newest out of the bunch. It takes you behind the scenes of the infamous Tiffany & Co. and how much influence it has had among women for as long as it’s been created. You get to learn the history of Tiffany & Co. and you also get a look into the way things are being ran in present day. You will be introduced to Tiffany’s first female design director Francesca Amfitheatrof and you may find it ironic how closely she looks to Audrey Hepburn. You will also learn about many of the jewelry designers who’ve had success at Tiffany & Co. such as Elsa Peretti. Of course there will be many references to the movie everyone should know, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and how Audrey Heprburn became the face of the company.

Lake Murray

The past weekend I visited Lake Murray and it was so beautiful. I really love the nature in California. From the beach to being lakeside, I always feel happy and relaxed when I am there. I bought this off the shoulder top and red handkerchief from Brandy Melville. It's kind of ridiculous that I bought a simple handkerchief for 10 bucks, but hey I was in the shopping mood and groove. Now that I live on the west coast, I've been obsessed with everything Brandy. My first time shopping there was my freshman year in college when I lived in NYC. I was hooked then, but something about actually being in California makes you obsessed with it. I wore these cute boyfriend jeans that I got from Hollister for only $25. I recommend visiting Hollister if you're ever in need of some good jeans at an inexpensive price. I had to put on a belt because they were a little big around the hips, but I made it work. For shoes, I wore grey strap-on sandals. I love this outfit and it's definitely one of my favorites.
